Care Certificate: Individual Standards

The introduction of the Care Certificate replaces the Common Induction Standards (CIS) and National Minimum Training Standards (NMTS). It is the responsibility of employers to deliver the required standards of the Care Certificate determined by the roles their new employees are commencing. These standards should be covered during staff induction.

We are currently working closely with Highfield, the awarding body that developed the Care Certificate in March 2015 for the Skills for Care and we are able to access their new e-learning programme that consists of the 15 standards that make up the complete knowledge requirement of the Care Certificate.

Who should take these courses?

Anyone starting in the health or social care sectors must complete the required standards of the Care Certificate. This includes health care assistants, assistant practitioners, care support workers and anyone supporting clinical roles in the NHS where they have direct contact with patients. It also includes adult social care workers providing direct care in residential and nursing homes and hospices, plus home care workers.

Caring volunteers, porters, cooks, drivers and other employees that have direct contact with patients and service users may also need to undertake some or all of the standards required.

It is recommended by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that employers in the health or social care sectors should deliver the Care Certificate as part of their staff induction programmes. This e-learning course is the ideal resource to allow staff to go on to achieve the full Care Certificate or the relevant standards within it.

What do learners achieve?

This e-learning programme is flexible so that each learner can complete the standards that are specific to their role. It is also mapped to units on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) relating to health and social care qualifications, meaning learners can use the standards they have completed as recognised prior learning.

Completion of this e-learning course will confirm a learner’s understanding of the knowledge elements of the Care Certificate. Following this, once the competence elements of the Care Certificate have been observed in the workplace, it can be awarded by the employer.

This is an interactive and engaging resource to support the delivery of the Care Certificate; is a flexible delivery model, which allows learners to manage the pace of their own learning, has a facility to revisit modules for revision or refreshment; learner’s knowledge is assessed and recorded and a tracked record of a learner’s progress. This will save on lots of time and effort on coaching and development from yourself, management, senior staff and in house trainers, where a new member of staff can take the Care Certificate learning journey mostly solo.

We are able to offer the Care Certificate e-learning programme for only £35 + VAT per person. There is no minimum order.
