Green Labourers CSCS Card

The Green Labourer card is specifically for people carrying out labouring duties. Do not apply for this card if you work in a skilled occupation – to find the correct card for your occupation, please use the Card Finder tool on the CSCS website.

This card is valid for five years. It is currently not possible to renew a Labourer card. However, you can apply for a new Labourer card when your existing card expires.

There are numerous routes to obtaining the Labourer card, ranging from a lifetime qualification to a number of training courses that need to be renewed every 3-5 years.

All applicants must pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives and hold one of the following:

• An RQF Level 1/SCQF Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
• An SCQF Level 5 REHIS Elementary Health and Safety Certificate.
• The NOCN/CSkills Awards Construction Health and Safety (F/618/0738) unit
• A CSCS approved alternative qualification. Alternative qualifications with an expiry date can only be used once, so you will need to retake these qualifications in the future when you apply for a new or renewed Labourer card.

With GEM, you can attend a 1-day Health & Safety in a Construction Environment course, which is approved by CSCS to apply for the Green Labourer Card, and complete the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test in the same day. As above, all Labourer card applications must now be new applications. This requires the applicant to submit a copy of their qualification/training course certificate as part of the new card application every 5 years. This means that you would need to attend the 1-day Health & Safety course, and CITB Test, with GEM every 5 years to apply for a new card.

GEM ensure you remain compliant and up-to-date with regular email reminders ahead of the expiry date, to let you know your current qualification(s) are expiring.
