The Skills and Training Fund can be applied for, and used in conjunction with, CITB grant eligible-training and supports a wide range of activities. As a CITB Awarding Training Organisation (ATO), GEM Compliance Training can support organisation to make the application, and access all training required directly through GEM and/or our team of associates.

Eligibility
To able to apply, you must:
Small and Micro-sized Construction Businesses
- Be a CITB-registered employer and up to date with Levy returns
- You have up to 99 directly-employed staff (in addition to the business owner)
- Any previous project paid for by the fund is complete and signed off
You can apply for up to £10,000, depending on how many direct employees you have:
- Employers with CIS only (no PAYE) can receive up to £2,500
- 1 to 49 directly-employed staff can receive up to £5,000
- 50 to 74 directly-employed staff can receive up to £7,500
- 75 to 99 directly-employed staff can receive up to £10,000
Medium-sized Construction Businesses
- Be a CITB-registered employer and up to date with Levy returns
- Have between 100 – 250 directly-employed staff
- Any previous project paid for by the fund is complete and signed off
You can apply for up to £25,000, depending on how many direct employees you have:
- 100 to 149 directly-employed staff can receive up to £15,000
- 150 to 199 directly-employed staff can receive up to £20,000
- 200 to 250 directly-employed staff can receive up to £25,000
Businesses can apply twice in 12 months – but can only have 1 live project at a time.

Yes! You can claim both the CITB Short Course Grants as well as the CITB Skills and Training Fund, which will make your funding go even further. Working with GEM on this, we would ensure this Is maximised for you to ensure your funding goes as far as it can.
How do you make an application for the CITB Skills and Training Fund?

How can GEM support your CITB Skills and Training Fund bid?
As part of the application, you will need to put together a clear training plan for the next 12 months. Our GEM team can point you in the right direction of the full available grant courses you can claim and support you in putting together a training application that would be strongly considered by CITB. We will work closely with you to make sure you maximise your funding by claiming all available pots available at CITB such as the Short Course Grants in addition to the this Skills and Training Fund. What happens once I have applied for the CITB Skills and Training Fund?
Once you have applied for the CITB Skills and Training Fund, CITB will assess your application. They take around four weeks to make their decision.
What if I am NOT a CITB registered Employer, and/or not knowledgeable about the CITB Levy?

What are the reasons why funding would be rejected by CITB?
Usually the main reasons why funding is rejected is:
- Asking for funding on a course that doesn’t relate to construction.
- Applications don’t contain the required information.
- Levy Returns have not been submitted.
- Behind on Levy payments.

Leadership & Management Development Fund
This fund opened on 1st April 2024. To apply, the business must meet the following:
- Over 250 directly employed staff
- Most recent Levy return submitted
- All year’s levy payments must be up to date
The amount of funding you can apply for is determined by the total number of directly-employed staff across all large associated businesses within your group:
- 250-499 up to £50,000
- 500-999 up to £75,000
- 1,000 or more up to £100,000
